Shabbat Worship Services

Shabbat is an important time for members of Congregation Beth Shalom to come together as a community.

Kabbalat Shabbat services run throughout the year on Friday evenings.   On many Fridays we welcome the Shabbat with a traditional service full of singing, reflection, and prayer.  However, several times a year we offer alternative service formats such as Klezmer music services (all singing), meditation services, and learning services.  For families with younger children, we offer Family Services once a month.  These service begin at a more kid friendly time and are geared toward a younger audience.  All services end with a wonderful Oneg Shabbat to ensure that we continue to experience the joy of Shabbat and the joy of our community.

Saturday morning prayer begins with an optional Torah study session.  Services are small and intimate (when there is no bar or bat Mitzvah) giving everyone a chance to participate.  Our congregation is proud of the extensive cadre of torah leiners (both young and older) that have been developed through the years.  It is not uncommon to see students come back and lein torah to celebrate the anniversary of their bar or bat Mitzvah.

Days of Awe

The Days of Awe are an incredibly reflective and introspective period for members of Congregation Beth Shalom.

Our Days of Awe begin with Selichot services on the Shabbat preceding Rosh Hashanah.  The evening begins with a movie and discussion followed by a brief Havdalah service and then Selichot.

We offer full services on the first and second day of Rosh Hashanah.   On Yom Kippur we offer morning, afternoon, Yitzkor, and Ne’ilah services.  In addition to our full services, we offer family services on both Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur.  Family services are geared for children in third grade and under.

Days of Awe tickets are included with the cost of your membership.

Other Holidays

Congregation Beth Shalom provides worship opportunities for every major holiday.  Special events for Simchat Torah, Hanukah and Shavuot help keep Judaism alive throughout the year.

In addition to celebrating together, we also support one another in remembering our loved ones through Yizkor services at each of the major festivals.
