Welcome to Congregation Beth Shalom. We are a friendly all-encompassing synagogue in the western suburbs. My family and I have been members of the synagogue since 1996. During that time, we have made many good friends and have found the congregation a very welcoming, caring community.

When we joined, we were looking for a place our children could meet other Jewish children, a place they could celebrate their bat mitzvahs, and a friendly place that would become our Jewish home. We found it here at CBS, and whether you are looking for egalitarian prayer services, a Jewish preschool or a religious school for your children, you will find it here as well.

Our school prepares the children through learning to read Hebrew, familiarity with prayers and teachings on the Torah. It provides a solid foundation for B’nai Mitzvah training and, more importantly, for Jewish life. Our b’nai mitzvah program is second to none and has been nationally recognized for its excellence. I can honestly say, from personal experience, my children’s bat mitzvah training was outstanding! They know and understand the prayer service and can lead a service on their own!

We welcome people of all denominations. Our congregation encompasses interfaith families, Jews by choice, young families, older families and retirees. We welcome people of all genders. But we aren’t satisfied; we are committed to building for the future, and are involved in the community around us. We encourage new ideas, and there are many opportunities to become involved across all aspects of our congregation. I personally have been involved in many committees and have been on the board for over 10 years. We have strong adult education programs (I am learning to speak Hebrew!) and youth programs (we have a very active BBYO), as well as multiple programs encompassing many diverse areas of interest. We strive to create an atmosphere where people can meet each other, share similar interests, and become a part of our dynamic, caring community.

I joined Congregation Beth Shalom for my children, but have stayed for our community. Welcome to CBS!
