The Security Committee works to develop and implement plans that maintain the safety and security of Congregation Beth Shalom, including upgrades to the physical security of the building, contingency planning for emergencies, and coordinating volunteer and paid security.
To ensure that we are informed by best practices, we attend security and safety training programs sponsored by the Department of Homeland Security, JUF, SCN (Secure Community Network), CSS (Community Security Service), and other organizations committed to the safety of the Jewish community and Jewish organizations.
The Security Committee also schedules training programs for our members, lay leaders, and clergy several times a year.
We have been fortunate to receive a number of security grants, including significant funding managed through the Illinois Emergency Management Agency and FEMA. We will continue to apply for grant funding.
