Inclusivity is a Jewish value. At CBS, our goal is to make services as welcoming as possible by providing accommodations to remove barriers to participation and make you as comfortable as possible as we worship together. Below are examples of ways we accommodate many different types of requests. If you require an accommodation that is not listed below, please contact our office at 630-961-1818 or feel free to email our synagogue president, Elizabeth Sigale (cbspresident@napershalom.org).
Parking
There are marked, reserved handicapped spaces located in our front parking lot for vehicles with a handicap placard or license plate.
Live Streaming of Services and Online Siddur
If you cannot attend our services in person, CBS offers a live stream, via Zoom, of all services. Links will be posted in our weekly Connections newsletter or can be requested by contacting our office at 630-961-1818. Siddur pages referenced during our services can be found here to allow more complete and meaningful online participation.
Assistive Listening System
Our building is equipped with an assisted listening technology that can be connected to your bluetooth enabled hearing aids, ear buds or headphones via an app that can be downloaded to your telephone or tablet. Once connected, you will be able to hear the microphones on the bimah directly in your hearing aids, ear buds or headphones. Directions to use this technology can be found here.
Large Print Siddurs
Large print copies of our siddur are located immediately outside of our sanctuary.
Wheelchairs and Walkers
CBS has a limited number of wheelchairs and walkers available for use by congregants and guests. To make arrangements for use, please contact our office at 630-961-1818 or feel free to email our synagogue president, Elizabeth Sigale (cbspresident@napershalom.org) or ask an usher upon your arrival.
Bathrooms
CBS has a number of handicap accessible bathrooms located throughout the building. Each of the bathrooms in the school wing (located through the double doors beyond the lobby) are handicapped accessible. In addition, there is a unisex bathroom in the preschool wing (located at the west end of the building) that has additional space for individuals that might need assistance from a family member or aide.
Service Animals
At CBS, service animals (defined as an animal that has been individually trained to do work or perform a specific task(s) that benefits an individual with a disability) are welcome in the building when they are accompanying a person who is visually impaired or other persons with disabilities. An animal whose sole function is to provide comfort or emotional support does not qualify as a service animal under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
Sensory Support
We understand that large crowds can be overwhelming to many people. We encourage our congregants and guests to bring quiet, non-distracting fidgets, noise cancelling headphones or other self-regulation tools.
